Howard's Life After NYCC

     After Peter Howard left New York Central College in 1852, he enlisted to fight in the Civil War. Howard joined the Union Navy and earned the rank of Landsman. A Landsman was a rank given to naval recruits who did not have experience at sea. Howard lived with his parents throughout his life and also took on the profession of being a barber.
