The Dorsey's in College

While the brothers studied at New York Central College they were given the same opportunities as their white peers, which was something no other college or school offered during this time period. They were able to study some of the most prestigious subjects such as Latin, Greek, arithmetic, and philosophy. The brothers were also given the opportunity to study agricultural science outside of the other typical classroom subjects. When the Dorsey brothers graduated from the college in 1858 they decided to achieve higher education. Both of the brothers went on to study at Oberlin College in Ohio, When they graduated from Oberlin, Charles stayed in Ohio to become a teacher, and Thomas pursued a medical degree at Harvard.
